Heavy-Duty Scissor Lift for Automotive Assembly Line

Heavy-Duty Scissor Lift for Automotive Assembly Line

⚠ The Challenge

The client manufactures automotive sub-assemblies at their Chakan facility near Pune. Workers used fixed-height workstations with step stools, leading to poor ergonomics, inconsistent quality and frequent musculoskeletal complaints. They needed hydraulic positioning that handles 1.5-tonne loads and adjusts height smoothly during assembly cycles.

✔ Our Solution

Nio Equipment supplied 6 heavy-duty scissor lifts with 1.5-tonne capacity, 1200mm stroke and PLC-based pre-programmed height positions. Custom platforms interfaced with existing fixtures. Safety features include toe guards, anti-pinch sensors and emergency stops.

Key Results

25% reduction in assembly cycle time per station
Ergonomic work positioning eliminated musculoskeletal complaints
6 scissor lifts integrated into existing conveyor line without layout changes
PLC pre-set positions reduced operator training time by 50%
Zero unplanned downtime in first 12 months of operation
OEM audit rated the workstation upgrade as best-practice implementation

The Challenge

This Tier-1 automotive components manufacturer operates a high-volume assembly line at their Chakan facility, producing sub-assemblies for a major Indian OEM. The assembly process involves stages from floor-level sub-frame work to elevated dashboard and harness installation. Workers used fixed-height stations and step stools, causing poor ergonomics, slower cycles and rising injury reports.

Our Solution

Nio Equipment replaced fixed workstations with heavy-duty hydraulic scissor lifts positioning components at the optimal height for each stage. Each lift has 1.5-tonne capacity and 1200mm stroke. A PLC control system with pre-programmed heights lets operators press one button for the next working height — no manual adjustment needed.

Integration and Commissioning

All 6 lifts were installed during a planned 10-day shutdown. Custom mounting frames interfaced with the existing conveyor — no layout changes needed. Nio Equipment's team programmed PLC presets and validated cycle times before production restart.

Results and Impact

Assembly cycle time dropped 25%, with operators reporting significantly less fatigue. Musculoskeletal complaints fell to zero within the first quarter. The OEM's follow-up audit rated it a best-practice implementation, and the client is extending scissor lift workstations to their second line.

“The scissor lifts have made a visible difference on our assembly line. Operators are faster, more comfortable and more consistent. The PLC presets were a game-changer.”
