The client operates a 1-lakh sq ft automotive aftermarket distribution centre in the Oragadam Industrial Corridor — Tamil Nadu’s fastest-growing automotive and logistics hub. With 12 loading bays serving 150-200 trucks daily (peaking at 250 during festive season), the fixed-height concrete docks with manual ramps created a severe bottleneck. Different truck types — Tata Ace mini-trucks to 40-ft trailers — had bed heights ranging from 700mm to 1400mm. Manual ramp adjustment took 10-12 minutes per truck, and height mismatches caused forklift pallet spills averaging 3-4 incidents per week.

Nio Equipment installed 12 hydraulic dock levelers with 8-tonne dynamic load capacity, 2.2m x 2.5m platforms and 450mm lip extensions. The units accommodate the full range of truck heights used in the Indian logistics fleet. Each bay was equipped with LED traffic signal lights (red/green for truck approach), rubber dock bumpers, and dock shelters to protect goods from rain — critical during Chennai’s monsoon season. Anti-corrosion treatment on all components addressed Chennai’s coastal humidity.

Our Solution
Nio Equipment specified 8-tonne capacity dock levelers to handle heavy automotive parts pallets and the weight of counterbalance forklifts. The 450mm lip extension bridges even the widest gap between dock and truck bed. Chennai’s coastal climate required marine-grade anti-corrosion treatment on all steel surfaces and IP54-rated hydraulic power units. Dock shelters at each bay prevent monsoon rain from reaching the goods during loading — automotive parts are particularly sensitive to moisture damage.
Results
Average truck turnaround dropped from 45 minutes to 27 minutes per truck. During Diwali peak season, the facility handled 250 dispatches in a single day without dock congestion. Pallet spills — previously costing the client lakhs in damaged inventory monthly — dropped to zero. The anti-corrosion coating has shown zero degradation after 12 months in Chennai’s humid environment.
